Blackpool hotelier blasts one-star Tripadvisor review claiming the venue ‘smells like a nursing home’ and is too cold – saying it’s ‘frankly a lie’ and that staff ‘cannot control the weather’
The general manager of a Blackpool hotel has blasted a savage one-star TripAdvisor review which claimed the establishment ‘smells like a nursing home’ and ‘needs closing’.
According to the reviewer, their stay at the Royal Seabank Hotel was not enjoyable, despite it enjoying an average rating of four stars.
The review, which said the establishment was so cold they couldn’t take off their coat to eat, also described it as ‘dirty’.
Sharing their opinion, the reviewer said: ‘What a disgrace this place is. No heating, place dirty, [we] got upgraded to deluxe as complained that outside of standard room smelt heavily of paint […].
The general manager of the Royal Seabank Hotel (pictured) in Blackpool has hit back at a one-star TripAdvisor review
‘Omg this place needs closing. The reception man was helpful, and [the] singer was good, but I’ve never gone out for the evening wearing my pjs and coat as [it] was so cold. Can’t rate the food as [it] was too cold to enjoy. [Sitting] in a coat eating my tea is not right so [I] didn’t go again.
‘Poor staff. I felt sorry for [them], they work very hard, they [were] complaining how cold it was. The place smells like a nursing home.’
However, the hotel’s general manager said he did not agree with the claims, and blasted the reviewer in a blistering response.
The savage one-star review claims the hotel ‘smells like a nursing home’ – claims disputed by the establishment’s general manager
‘Totally disagree’: the hotel’s general manager said he did not agree with the claims made in the one-star review
He wrote: ‘Firstly I totally disagree with this review, we have an ongoing refurbishment programme to keep up the hotels standards.
‘The room you occupied had been refurbished so your comments about the hotel should be closed down are frankly a lie.
‘During the winter months out central heating is on constant and it is up to the customers to control the temperature of the radiators in their room.
‘As we are one of the leading hotels in Blackpool we are good at what we do but unfortunately we can’t control the weather.’
Despite the hotel coming under fire from the unhappy guest, many others have praised the establishment with their effusive five-star write-ups
Despite the poor write-up, the hotel enjoys a four-star rating on TripAdvisor, where it has 1,575 reviews, including 800 giving it five-stars.
One happy guest wrote: ‘Would like to say this hotel group, Blackpool promotions, are the best to travel with. The Royal group of hotels in Blackpool are so good, their service is 5 star…[The] Royal Seabank staff were brilliant…they couldn’t do enough for [you]… ‘
Another agreed, adding: ‘Had a great stay. Great staff, especially Ash…[who] was a very efficient, well-mannered young man.
‘James and Kieron on reception were excellent, and [did] everything they could to help a guest in the hotel, which was very much appreciated…Chris [and] Craig in the bar were very efficient…’
And a further reviewer said: ‘We had a really good few days at this hotel. The staff are very helpful and friendly, the facilities and rooms were lovely, and the food was very good quality. We stayed on an all-inclusive basis, which was really good value for money. I would highly recommend this hotel and will definitely be returning.’
